If you&#8217;re like me and your response to lists of what&#8217;s good\/bad, best\/worst,\u00a0in\/out, hot\/not, is, &#8220;Who says?&#8221; then you will appreciate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/parenting\/eight-essential-kinds-of-books-every-kid-should-107288842073.html?soc_src=mags&amp;soc_trk=copy\">Burns&#8217; list<\/a>. It\u00a0recommends no specific books\u00a0but broad and self-defined categories\u00a0that\u00a0help parents give children a\u00a0diverse reading experience &#8211;\u00a0so much more evolved than letting\u00a0someone we don&#8217;t\u00a0know dictate what\u00a0book will resonate with us or our children.<\/p>\n<p>Children will certainly benefit from the types of books Burns suggests: board books, mythology, books you loved as a kid, books that suit their personality, poetry, non-fiction, books that are too old for them and brilliantly, blank books. As I read through his list I thought adults should use this list too!<\/p>\n<p>When we mature as readers and\u00a0settle on specific\u00a0types of books we love,\u00a0we sometimes forget the eclectic\u00a0array of books that made us love to read. Burns&#8217; list made me remember\u00a0everything from\u00a0the Golden Books my sisters and I read until\u00a0we wore the covers down to the cardboard,\u00a0to the blank composition books,\u00a0my first journals, that would swell as I wrote down thoughts and feelings in prose that no one but me would ever read &#8211; thank goodness!
